   Donald Eugene Phillips was born July 31, 1948, to Duane and Marilyn (McCallister) Phillips. Donny grew up on a farm outside of Lake View, IA. He graduated in 1966 from Lake View-Auburn High School. He went on to Iowa State University where he attained a Mechanical Engineering degree, graduating in 1971. After college, Donny worked at Rowedder Implement in Wall Lake until 1977. At that time he started his own welding/fabricating business which he called Phillips Manufacturing that was located on the farm outside of Lake View. He was always thinking about work and you wouldn’t find him without his tape measure, chalk, and caliper in his pocket or attached to his belt. Donny was known to many as an inventor, a tinkerer, and a person who could fabricate whatever you needed. He retired in 2014.
   Donny loved his dog, Roscoe, and took him anywhere he could. He loved to fish, whether at the Raccoon River, Blackhawk Lake, or on a trip to Canada with his buddies. He also enjoyed family trips to Alaska and Palm Springs. If you asked Donny about his spare time, he would tell you that he loved to spend time with his awesome neighbors and friends……too numerous to mention, but you know who you are. He and Roscoe always had time for a friendly chat. Long ago, Donny was the Saddle Club president and enjoyed his adventures at the Dayton Rodeo. Donny was a supporter of the St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, SD, and the Arbor Day Foundation for saving trees.
   Following an accident that occurred in October of 2016, Donny spent time in the ICU at Mercy Medical in Sioux City, then was transferred to Madonna Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, NE. In February of 2017, Donny was transferred to Fonda Care Center where he made many great friends.
   Donald Phillips, age 69, of Lake View, IA, unable to overcome the injuries he sustained, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Fonda Care Center in Fonda, IA. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
   Survivors include his mother, Marilyn Phillips of Sac City, IA; brother Norm (Marsha) Phillips of Lake View, IA; sisters: Nancy (Rich) Auen of Sac City, IA, and Cheryl (Michael) Carson of Palmer, AK; eight nieces and nephews: Jason Phillips, Leslie Willson (special friend Jay), Samantha (Tim) Ludwig, Andrew (Kirsten) Phillips, Jodi (Andy) Mortensen, Chris (Sara) Rodman, Kevin (Peg) Rodman, and Zachary (Margaret) Melear; many great nieces and nephews; one great-great niece; step-grandfather Boyd Rodman; many extended family members and friends.
   Donald was preceded in death by his father, Duane Phillips;  maternal grandparents Charlie McCallister and Velma Rodman; paternal grandparents Arthur and Bertha Phillips.

“Don was probably the smartest boy in our LVA Class of 1966. His mind was geared to the mechanical and engineering. Getting an engineering degree from ISU is no small feat. He marched to his own drummer, and running his own company in his home town suited him well. A good remembrance would be that he always had time for you for a good smile and laugh. Thalya and I send our condolences to the whole Phillips family. ”

“Donnie was one of the 1st people I met when moving to Lake View, We were in a bind and needed an obsolete part repaired when he dropped everything and made me a complete new one. From that day on we became respected friends. Donnie was a good man and will be kept in our thoughts and prayers. “I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. Although I haven't seem him in many years I have fond memories of him throughout junior and high school. Since our last names started with the same letter he was always one seat ahead of me in class. We were friends. As the years pass we are starting to see our class of '66 losing its members, including my husband Steve. But I expect he knows Don is gone now too and perhaps he and Darrell and Bonnie were some of the first to welcome him home. My thoughts are with you Norman and your sister and all of Don's family. “My Condolences to the Phillips family. i always enjoyed Donnie as one of those unforgettable characters. i enjoyed hunting deer on his farm or fishing with him up in Canada or fixing something for me for Shamrock Boats at his welding shop. It always was fixed properly and would get done as long as you didn't try to rush him. He always had those words of wisdom that he liked to share.”
