Jerald (Jerry) L Huss, age 70, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA with his family and friends by his side after a long journey of ups and downs with his health. Jerry was born on January 9, 1947 to John and Maxine Huss in Boone, IA, where he attended and graduated from Boone High School. After school, Jerry went on to serve in the National Guard and worked for the Iowa Highway Commission.
In 1967, while working on the road, Jerry met the love of his life, Sue. Sue was a waitress at a restaurant that Jerry was eating at. Lucky for him, the weather got bad, and Jerry had a cool car, so he offered Sue a ride home, and then on November 27, 1969, they were married in Monticello, IA. Jerry and Sue were blessed with three daughters: Lisa, Lynda and Pam.
Jerry and his family made their home in Lake View, where they bought a local furniture store. In the first few years of owning Huss Furniture, Jerry got certified in appliance repair as well as flooring. In 1979, Jerry got certified as an EMT and worked for Sac County for 38 years. Having the ability to help people in a time of need was very important to him. As years went by, Jerry and Sue became Licensed Emergency Foster Parents, and opened their home to 17 children.
Jerry discovered that he had an interest in politics, and he became a member of the city council in Lake View and served for over 25 years. People knew that Jerry believed in bettering Lake View and would never back down from what he believed was the best solution, even if it was the less popular road. He always stood firm and was heard. He served on several committees throughout his lifetime and up until his death. Councilmen Huss was always ready to hear residents concerns and ideas. His main goal to keep Lake View thriving and for it to be an amazing place to live, never changed.
Jerry loved cars and over the years he bought and restored several hot rods. He loved taking rides in his “cool cars” around the lake with Susie. He also enjoyed taking his family for motorcycle rides and as time went by, it became a bond between Jerry and his son-in-law. Jerry never stopped learning new skills and began to learn how to build slot cars. His grandchildren and family enjoyed racing them with him every chance they could get. Jerry also loved to travel, Nascar and music.
Jerry had overcome many obstacles with his health over the years. He showed his family what true courage and strength was from not giving up. Jerry loved to be with his family, who meant the world to him. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed putting smiles on everyone’s faces. Jerry’s jokes, family dinners and caring personality will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Susie; daughter Pam Huss-Brauckman; grandchildren: Krystal, Jake (Cassandra), Emily (Fiancé Tyler), Zach and Lisa; great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Kyler, Kynlie and Lennox.
Jerry was preceded in death by his daughters: Lisa Huss and Lynda Schachtner; son-in-law Jerry Brauckman; parents and life long best friend Mike Scott.
