   Darin Gregory Longman, age 35, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.  Darin was born on March 6, 1982, to Gregory and Marilyn (Dowling) Longman in Sac City, IA.  He graduated from Sac City High School and continued his education at Iowa State University. 

   Darin was a recruiter at Midwest Professional Staffing in West Des Moines. In his free time, he enjoyed cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and Indianapolis Colts.  Darin also enjoyed watching WWF (not WWE), Smallville, and playing his favorite video games.  He was a creative genius in art, music and writing.  He had a unique love for comic books and Marvel Superheroes.

   Darin was a very kind and caring man.  He was the most unselfish person and was always helping others.  Darin cared for virtually everyone he knew, and was so good at putting others’ needs first. His infectious personality, smile and sense of humor made him so approachable and so well liked. He was never without that smile that would light up a room.  Darin had an unbelievable number of friends and he truly touched everyone he met. He had a way of making everyone feel that they were a part of something special. His presence never failed to lift the spirits of everyone else upon entering the room. Darin had this amazing ability to connect with people. So many bonds and friendships were created through him… and, oh, those HUGS!!

   Darin was an organ donor. Two recipients were given the gift of life earlier this week as they each received one of Darin’s kidneys. His lungs were donated to research. In true Superhero fashion, Darin, AKA ‘Special D’ has saved lives.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his mother Marilyn Longman of Sac City, IA; grandmother Mary Jean Gibson of Carroll, IA; aunts and uncles: Lance (Deb) Longman of Grinnell, IA, Peggy (John) Alder of Westminster, CO, Jim (Mary) Dowling of Sac City, IA, Teresa Kukolja of Denver, CO, Joanne(Rich) Wells of Rapid City, SD, Julie (Jeff) Beaudoin of Omaha, NE, Sally Jo (Tom) Mason of Sac City, IA; and many cousins and extended family members. 

   Darin is preceded in death by his father Greg; grandparents CD Gibson, Forest and Melinda Longman; and cousin Tim Longman.

“I met Darin the day he moved into his dorm at Iowa State. I was moving my sister in the same day and Darin and Kate became great friends from that day forward. I didn’t know him well except for the few times we all hung around together but he was such a kind and gentle person, full of joy and he absolutely did have the best, most contagious smile. I don’t know you Marilyn, but have been praying for you all week since Kate passed on the news that Darin first entered the hospital. My heart breaks for your family and I just wanted you to know that I have prayed for God’s Presence to so surround you that it is litterally palpable. May He hold you up when you can’t stand and give you courage and strength that is supernatural. Much love to you and your family. ”
