Delbert Graber, age 82, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 11th, 2017 at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake. Delbert Walter Graber was born on February 24th, 1935 to Elmer and Annette (Von Glan) Graber on a farm west of Breda and was baptized on May 5, 1935 at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church. His early years were spent growing up and working on the farm where they raised dairy cattle and crops. Delbert especially enjoyed handling the work horses on the farm. He attended school in Wall Lake, graduating from Wall Lake High School in 1955. Upon graduation Delbert headed to Pennsylvania to work on the Graber Family Farm. Soon after returning home to Breda to farm with his father and brother Richard, Delbert met the love of his life, Donna Mae Buse. They were married on January 27th, 1957. This union was blessed with seven children: Karen, Sandy, Barbara, Marlene, Steve, Larry and Jerry.
Delbert enjoyed farming of any kind and although getting his start in dairy farming, eventually moved to swine production, all the while continuing to raise crops. Delbert and Donna started farming near Wall Lake, but after several years moved to a farm near Auburn, eventually settling on a hog farm west of Ulmer. During his farming career, Delbert was also involved on several agricultural boards. After retiring from farming, he stayed busy working at Breda Feed & Grain for several years. Later he spent his time driving truck, and also enjoyed working on farm equipment. Delbert enjoyed attending farm auctions, collecting Farmall Tractors, pheasant hunting, fishing, eating out, and visiting with friends.
Most of all, Delbert loved his family dearly and looked forward to any time spent with them. Delbert enjoyed getting the family together with neighbors and friends, especially during the summer months. As time passed, the family continued to grow, but often the entire family could still be found gathering at Delbert and Donnas’ for Holidays and other celebrations. Even as the number of grandchildren multiplied, Delbert always tried to make time to attend the grandkids Birthday celebrations as well. Many of the children and grandchildren also cherish memories of tagging along with Delbert and driving to some of his favorite spots for drinks and a treat.
