Ella Bell Johnson age 99 of Nemaha, IA, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Ella was born July 21, 1914 to James Dennis Fyfe and Augusta Rath Fyfe. She was born on the Fyfe family farm which was homesteaded by her grandfather Morris Fyfe just after the Civil War.
She attended country school through eighth grade and then graduated from Newell High School in 1931. Ella married Raymond (Jack) Johnson on November 30, 1935. The couple farmed the Johnson family farm for 40 years and then retired to Sac City in 1975. After moving to town Ella did volunteer work in the hospital and worked at the Sac County Fair.
Ella Bell was a home maker all of her life. She loved to crochet, knit, do crafts and made many quilts. She also had many flowers and loved to garden. Ella was a member of the Nemaha United Methodist Church and Nemaha UMW. Ella belonged to many clubs which included the Nemaha Garden Club, Sac City Hobby Club, D.D. Club, Jolly 12 Card Club of Sac City, Neighborhood Birthday Club, Nemaha Grandmother’s Card Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond in January 2000; brother Laverne Fyfe and wife Verna; sister Gladys Fyfe Johnson and husband Alve Johnson, and son-in-law Thomas Hakes.
