Sherrill Kay Stedman, age 81, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Sherrill was born on March 30, 1936, to Orville and Julia (Peyton) Russell in Sac City.  She graduated from Sac City High School and completed a year at the University of Iowa.  She was married to David Stedman February 5, 1955.  Three sons were born to this union: David, Dennis and Don.  They were later divorced.

     Sherrill worked hard as a single mother to provide for her young children.  She was employed a few years for Trojan Seed Company in Sac City, as an agent and office supervisor at Colburn Insurance, Inc., and was the Deputy Clerk of Courts in Sac County for many years. 

     Sherrill was baptized and a lifetime member of the First Christian Church.  She served on the trustee committee and was the church secretary when she retired.

     Reading, playing cribbage and computer games were some of Sherrill’s favorite hobbies.  She was also a member of the Sac City Library Board and Friends of the Library.  Above all of these, Sherrill loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Following their activities and accomplishments brought her great happiness.  She will be remembered for her sense of humor, lovely smile, and the joy that she shared with everyone.  She cherished her friends and loved her family very much.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

     Survivors include her sons: David Stedman of Sioux City; Dennis (Ann) Stedman of Maplewood, MN; and Don (Teresa Schuetz) Stedman of Louisville, NE;  daughter-in-law Lorrie Stedman of Sioux City; grandchildren: Benjamin (LaRae), Brett (Katelyn), Julia, and Dalton Stedman; and Stephanie (Caleb) Wiegmann and Rebeca (Derek) Jonovich; great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Samuel, Shiloh, William, Jameson, and Adelaide.  Other survivors include her siblings: Scott (Linda) Russell of Sac City, Kirk (Debbie) Russell of Ames, and Karen (Ken) Ossian of Bettendorf; several nieces and nephews; extended family members and a host of friends.

     Sherrill was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Julia Russell; great-grandchildren Peyton Rose Stedman and Patrick David Stedman.


     In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for the Sac City Public Library as well as the First Christian Church in Sac City has been established in Sherrill's name.
