Donald Ted Hosteng, age 87, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Don was born on February 21, 1927, in Sac City, IA, to Theodore and Iva E. (Luke) Hosteng. He was a lifelong resident of Sac City, graduating from Sac City High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy in service to his country (WWII) from April 5, 1945 through August 27, 1946 earning the rank of Seaman First Class. On June 1, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Robson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The couple made their home in Sac City and were blessed with five sons: Mark, Mike, Craig, Kirk and Scott. Marge passed away October 17, 2011.
Don founded Hosteng Concrete and Gravel and Farmers Lumber Yard in Sac City and Hosteng Farms. He enjoyed dancing, old cars, Harley Motor Cycles and Cushman Motor Scooters. He loved to go RV’ing and playing cards. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City.
Don married Kathy Tokheim Siedhoff on August 29, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. Don’s family grew with the addition of Kathy’s children: Jim, Mari Pat, Jerry, Kathryn and John. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hosteng of Sac City, IA; his sons: Mark (Jan) Hosteng of Lake View, IA, Mike Hosteng of Sac City, IA, Craig (Claire) Hosteng of Carmel, IN, Kirk (Cheri) Hosteng of Galesburg, IL and Scott (Bryn) Hosteng of Sac City, IA; step-children and their families: Jim (Valerie) Siedhoff of Missouri City, TX, Mari Pat (Mike) Brooks of Gravois Mills, MO, Jerry (Denise) Siedhoff of McKinney, TX, Kathryn (Scott) Williams of Lake City, IA, and John (Carol) Siedhoff of The Woodlands, TX; his grandchildren: Kari (Todd) Pottinger of Hasting, MN, Travis (Sherry) Hosteng of Ames, IA, Erinn (Justin) Meyer of Sac City, IA, Taylor (Justin) Buschmann of Sac City, IA, Nick (Sara) Hosteng of Austin, TX, Kristen Hosteng of Carmel, IN, Katie Hosteng of Galesburg, IL, and Tommy Hosteng of Galesburg, IL; great-grandchildren: T. J., Zach, Alix, and Cate Pottinger, Drake, Addison and Morgan Hosteng, Jaiden Hosteng, Caidyn Meyer, and Kylee and Addison Buschmann. Other survivors include his brother-in-law Ed (Cindy) Robson of Sun City, AZ, sister-in-law Joyce Witte of Sac City, IA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
