   Delmar H. Phillips, age 96, of Lake View, IA, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View.

   Delmar was born on October 27, 1920, in Lake View, IA, the son of Edward and Ruby (McKenzie) Phillips.  He graduated from Lake View High School.

   In 1942, Delmar joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country during World War II. He was stationed in Panama, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

   On August 7, 1942, Delmar was united in marriage to Bette Webster. Delmar’s work took them to Boone, IA, where they resided for 15 years. For 50 years, Delmar worked as an equipment superintendent for Hallett’s Road Construction, retiring in 1985.

   Delmar was an active member of the Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View, the American Legion, VFW, Shriners, and served on the city parks board. Delmar was a devoted member of over 50 years of the Masons Commanders and Council. He enjoyed boating, fishing, woodworking and fixing bikes and lawnmowers. Delmar was very dedicated to both his family and community.

   Survivors include his brother, Vernis Phillips and wife Marlene of Mapleton, IA; nieces and nephews: Margo Redford, Gloria Sorensen, Scott Phillips and Dennis Holdcroft; and many extended family members and friends.

   Delmar is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Bette on April 17, 2015.

In Lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to go to the Sac Community Center in his honor.
