Evelyn Lucille Huffman was born July 31, 1916, in Sac City, Iowa, to Lou and Inez (Rogers) Block. She graduated from Sac City Community High School and then worked as a dental receptionist prior to becoming a housewife and mother.
July 19, 1943, Evelyn married CL Huffman. They settled on the family farm where they raised their three children, CL farmed, and Evelyn gardened and cooked delicious meals. They resided on their Sac City farm until CL's death October, 2011. Evelyn then moved to her assisted living apartment at Jersey Ridge Place in Davenport, Iowa, where she delighted in the company of immediate family and her new Jersey Ridge family.
Evelyn's favorite pastimes included playing cards and bingo, listening to music, and watching professional baseball (cheering the Cubs to a World Series championship) and college basketball (always rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes). Her passion was crocheting and she made lovely gifts for her family, friends, and caregivers. Many homes have family names crocheted by Evelyn within a doily, framed and hanging on their walls. She kept busy filling requests for doilies and colorful potholders, headbands, hats, hangers, and her famous 'zakoozies' to hold cold drinks.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her husband CL Huffman and her daughter Gloria (Paterni).
Family members surviving are her daughter Judy Smith (Joseph) of Tucson, Arizona, and son Maurice Huffman (Cynde) of Davenport, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Shea Simpson (Tara), Nicole Harrigan (Tim), Joseph Smith, Jr., Charlotte Chavez (Coley), Heather Shults, Travis Huffman (Amber), Ashley Adamson (Garrett), and Andrew Huffman; 12 great grandchildren: Caden Simpson, Cassandra Trapani, Paige Harrigan, Riley Harrigan, Quinn Harrigan, Mark Harrigan, Cortez Chavez, Cash Chavez, Dominick Shults, Bryce Shults, Julian Shults, and Sawyer Adamson.
