June Arlene Rheinfrank, age 97, of Sac City, IA passed away on November 1, 2016, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. June Arlene (Mallory) Rheinfrank was born on June 15, 1919, in Sac City, IA to Raymond and Myrtle (Gates) Mallory. June was born and raised in Sac City. She attended and graduated from the Sac City High School. In school June was always active, especially in music, where she played the cello, the trumpet and the piano. June also sang in the choir. Growing up, June enjoyed spending time with her many friends. She loved doing things with her brother Walter until he sadly passed away at 16. She also loved to go fishing with her Uncle Norman.
After graduating from high school, June attended A.I.B. school of business in Des Moines where she graduated at the top of her class. It was during that time that June met and married Robert (Buck) Rheinfrank. Buck enlisted into the Navy and they moved to San Diego, CA. While living there they were blessed with a son, Robert Franklin Rheinfrank. It was shortly after that when June’s mother became ill, June moved back to Sac City with her son to help take care of her mother. After her mother passed away, June stayed in Sac City where she raised Robert. It was during this time that June put her business training to good use by running for the office of Sac County Recorder. This was a position she held for over 30 years, retiring in 1985.
June was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. She was very active in Church. She served as Clerk of Session, an Elder, a Deacon and she was in the Women’s group. June also loved singing in the choir and serving on the flower committee, but she especially loved being a Sunday school teacher. June was very active in the Sac City community. She could always be counted on for support whether it was school children raising funds, community chest and many other ways that would be for the benefit of her hometown. June was also one who could be counted on to give friends a ride to the doctor or even up to the Mayo Clinic. She loved going out with her friends to programs, church activities, special parties or just out to eat.
June was an Eastern Star Member, holding different offices in the Sac City Chapter #18. When the Sac City chapter closed, June became a lifetime member with the Sigma Chapter #1 in Carroll. June had been a member for over 50 years. She also loved helping the young women who belonged to the Rainbow Club.
June was a very special lady to many. She was known for her compassion, her caring nature, her love for helping others, her humor and her beautiful smile. She was also known for her Sunday dinners where she would fix a wonderful meal and invite in several friends spending the afternoon visiting and enjoying each other’s company.
After retiring, June retained an apartment in Broken Arrow, OK where she spent her winter months. This is where Robert had moved, working as VP of the Bank of Oklahoma. Robert and his wife Judy had one son, Steven Rheinfrank. June loved watching Steven in his various school activities and growing up. She loved spending all the time she could with him. She loved being a Grandma. While in Broken Arrow, June became very active in the Methodist church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school for many years and played in the Bell Choir. It was through the Methodist church that June met several new friends that she enjoyed spending time with. She especially loved attending plays, going shopping or looking for antiques with her new friends. It was then that June met a young Korean woman who had moved to Broken Arrow. June spent time teaching her new friend English and American History, helping her to become an American Citizen.
June moved back to Sac City on a permanent basis in 2011 to reside at Park View Rehabilitation Center. There she continued to show her love and kindness to those who visited her and those who took care of her. June was a very special lady. She was known for her beautiful smile and her loving and compassionate nature. She always put everyone’s needs and cares before her own. She supported not only local charities but many outside charities. She was a Christian woman who loved God, her family, her friends and her country. She was so loved and will be missed by so many.
June is survived by her grandson Steven (Jessica) Rheinfrank, 3 great grandchildren: Vanessa, Valerie and Victor all of Daly City, CA; special cousin Karen Hutchings; special friends, Larry and Mary Klindt of Sac City, IA, Todd, Jill, Lily, Penny and Owen Klindt of Ames, IA, friend Linda Harris of Broken Arrow, OK and extended family members and friends. June was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Myrtle Mallory, brother Walter Mallory, son Robert Rheinfrank and daughter-in-law Judy Rheinfrank.
