Marjorie Mae Johnson Quirk, age 94, of Battle Creek, IA, formerly of Wall Lake, IA, passed away October 13, 2016, at Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove.
Marjorie was born December 12, 1921, on a farm near Galva, IA, to Charles Oscar and Maude Stella (Challman) Johnson. Her grade school years were spent attending country schools near Galva and Schaller, graduating from Schaller High School in 1939.
She was a member of the Schaller Methodist Church. She cared for her mother following graduation and worked at the movie theatre and Schaller Telephone Company. In 1944 she married Edgar Wayne Quirk in a small ceremony in Chicago, IL. The couple lived in New York and Pasco, WA while Edgar was in the Navy. Following the war, they farmed near Schaller before moving into town where they were employed by the Schaller Schools. Three daughters were born to this union.
Marjorie moved to the Wall Lake area in 1970 and worked for the National Oats Company until her retirement. After retirement she worked at the Wall Lake Library and was secretary for the Trinity Presbyterian Church which she joined in 1980.
She was active with Eastern Star, acting as instructor for several years, was a leader of the Cook Go-Getters 4-H club, and acted as church treasurer for the Schaller Methodist Church. After retirement she enjoyed books, playing cards, knitting, quilting and making soft bears. In 2005 she moved to the Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek and joined the Battle Creek Senior Citizen group where she injoyed playing cards and socializing over lunch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Deborah (Thompson); sisters Helen (Brown) and Hester (died in infancy); bothers Earl and Orville (died in infancy), son-in-law Dallas Jensen, brother-in-law Earl Brown; sister-in-law Lenore Johnson Nye.
She is survived by daughters Pamela Jensen of Plattsmouth, NE and Nancy (Mark) Kasuboski of LaVista, NE; son-in-law Don Thompson of Schaller; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and many extended family members.
