Cloeva “Toby” Luchtel, age 79, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, Iowa on Monday, October 10, 2016. Toby was born on October 6, 1937 to George and Bonnie (Craig) Turner in LaFollette, Tennessee. Toby grew up in LaFollette where she attended school and went on to college for Fashion Design in San Diego, California.

Toby was united in marriage to Robert Luchtel on June 16, 1960, in National City, California. This union was blessed with 2 children: Brenda Lou and Dexter.

Holiday time was important toToby; gathering with her family was special to her and this gave her even more opportunity to spoil her granchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to travel, spend time with her friends, go on walks, enjoyed sewing, liked to gamble and also liked to play tennis. Toby always had a smile on her face and was a very selfless person, never wanting to “put anyone out”. Toby worked as an activities coordinator at Park View and was also employed at Noble Manufacturing, retiring in March of 1996.

Survivors include her son: Dexter (Nancy) Luchtel of Warrensburg, MO; grandchildren: Bethina Wirtjers of Sac City, IA, Brittany Wirtjers of Storm Lake, IA, Amanda Luchtel of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren: Madison Bobzien, Hadleigh Stille and Brileigh Stille; brothers: G.W. (Carol) Turner, Dennis Turner, John Ellis Turner and Doyle Turner all of LaFollette, TN; sisters: Wanda Paul of LaFollette, TN, Imogene (Burbon) McCown of Roseville, MI, Louise Patterson of Willow Springs, MO, Ginger (George) Frederick of LaFollette, TN and many extended family members.

Toby was preceded in death by her parents George and Bonnie Turner; husband Robert Luchtel; daughter Brenda Lou Luchtel; grandson Dustin Luchtel; brothers Leon Turner and James Turner and sister Georgia (Turner) Guy.

“I remember growing up and hanging out with Dexter, Toby was always smiling...seemed to always be in a great mood, which was tough with not only the two of us, but Todd too. When you'd go in her home, you'd always feel welcome. And, Conway, Porter or Dolly could be heard playing. My sincere thoughts are with the family. I was a better person for having known her...”

“I am so sad to hear about Toby's passing. She was a great neighbor (as was the whole family, Bob, Dexter, Brenda). I remember the first time my parents left me in charge of my sister while they went out to eat at the Carlson House. There were noises coming from the alley behind the house (probably cats in the trash can). I was too afraid to look out the back window to investigate. Instead, I made Erin come with me and we ran to Toby's house...very fast! She reassured me that it was alright and that there was nothing to be afraid of. Knowing that she was right next door was all I needed to happily volunteer to be in charge as the years progressed. Thank you, Toby, for giving me confidence...and a safety net. Say hello to Mom when you see her. Love, Natalie”
