Wilma Christine Petersen, age 78, of Lake View, IA, passed away at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Carroll, IA, on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.

Wilma was born on March 24, 1938, in Lake View, IA, to William and Hilda (Nelson) Clausen.  She graduated from Lake View High School in 1956.  She was baptized at Lake View Methodist Church and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City.  She later became a devoted member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View.

Wilma was united in marriage to Roger D. Petersen on June 1, 1958, at the Odebolt Lutheran Church.  Roger and Wilma were blessed with five children: Patricia, Carolyn, Marsha, Duane and Becky.   Wilma worked at the bakery in Sac City, was a cook at the retirement home in Carroll and Odebolt, and assisted with the congregational meal program in Wall Lake and Odebolt.

Wilma was a member of Dorcas Society at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, taught Bible School, and helped with funerals.  She was a member St. Anthony’s Auxiliary in Carroll, IA, volunteering at the gift shop.  She enjoyed baking and making fleece blankets, collected snowmen, and was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.  Living so close to Black Hawk Lake she loved the view and loved to share her fishing skills.  She taught family members how to fish, including grandchildren and in-laws.  She was hardworking and loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.  Wilma will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband Roger; her children: Carolyn (Merlen) Noess of Sac City, IA, Marsha (Michael) Kephart of Carlisle, IA, Duane Petersen of Lake View, IA, and Becky (Brent) Venneman of Ames, IA; eight grandchildren: Heather (Thomas) Herzog, Jennifer Richardson, Owen (Brittany) Richardson, Eric Noess, Amy Noess, Kyle Kephart, Marissa (Roy) Patterson, and Megan Venneman; three great grandchildren: Connor Noess, Analisea and Simon Patterson. Other survivors include her brother William (Joan) Clausen of Lake View, IA; sister Charlotte (Gerald) Tripp of Schaller, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Patricia Richardson, and son-in-law Mitchell Richardson.

Wilma loved her doctors and nurses.  The family would like to thank them for her wonderful care and kindness shown at the time of her illness and passing.

“Wilma was a dear person who would call me a couple times a year to let me know a check was in the mail to support our baby blanket and prayer shawl program at St. Anthony Hospital and Nursing Home. She donated generously and often to make sure this program remained at our hospital. She wanted to do more, but said her health would not permit it. We are so grateful for people like her in the world. Her generous spirit will live on long after she leaves this world. God has a good soul joining his team! I'll miss you, Wilma! ”

“I am so sorry for your loss. It was my privilege to know and to take care of Wilma. She lifted my spirits and those of my team members with her sense of humor. She had a strong spirit that showed through at tough times.
Every night, when I tuck in my daughters to sleep I see those blankets the she made for us and I pray for her soul.
I pray to God almighty to give her family members the strength to deal with this loss.
