      Laverne B. Mueggenberg, age 77, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.  Laverne was born on April 29, 1939, the youngest of six, to Ben and Kathryn (Hatting) Mueggenberg. He lived his entire life on the family farm where he was born.  Laverne was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City where he remained a life-time member.  He attended country school north of Sac City and graduated from Sac City High School in 1957.

     On September 7, 1963, Laverne married his sweetheart, Bernice Haverman at Roselle, IA.  This union was blessed with three children: Roger, Randy and Donna.  They made their home on the family farm near Sac City and just celebrated their 53rd anniversary. He was a grain farmer, raised hogs and had a commercial chicken laying operation. He also was a welder at Nobles Manufacturing Company in his younger years.  He retired in 1990 but needed to stay busy so he took many different jobs including: Iowa Select, Proliant, Yetter Locker, Drost Hauling and Sac County Road Department.  He and Bernice enjoyed taking bus trips and most recently traveled to Mackinac Island in June.

     Laverne’s passion was hunting deer and pheasants.  He passed this love of outdoors and hunting on to his children and grandchildren.  Many friends have gathered at the “deer shed” to celebrate their deer harvest. He was a member of the Sportsman’s Club and Sac City Gun Club.  Laverne served as an usher at St. Mary’s and was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus.

     Laverne loved his family and was blessed to have them all live close to home.  He was very proud of his children and their accomplishments and thoroughly enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.

     Survivors include his wife, Bernice; children: Roger Mueggenberg and wife Beth, Randy Mueggenberg and wife Bonnie, and Donna Geery and husband Jim all of Sac City; seven grandchildren: Matt (Kellie) Mueggenberg, Eric Mueggenberg, and Ben (Kristen) Mueggenberg; Paige (Josh) Alesch and Kolin Mueggenberg; and Kayla Geery and Justin Geery; two great-grandchildren: Mia and Finn Mueggenberg.  Other survivors include his two sisters-in-law: Delores Mueggenberg of Storm Lake and Grace Mueggenberg of Sac City; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, a host of friends, and his loving companion Louie.

     Laverne was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Kathryn; brothers: Merlin and Walter; sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy and Ivan Cressler; Alvina and Joe Gesy; and Leona and John Alexa.

“Dear Family,
We've reached the end of the Ben and Kathryn Mueggenberg family. Seems strange to think none of them are here us. But what a reunion and party they're having in heaven! I can hear them laughing while they play spoons.
I remember all the times we went back and forth across the road to play or work, especially in the summer walking beans or bailing hay and straw.
I remember Laverne coming over to help Grandma Kathryn clean chickens. Not my favorite days of the year!!😳
Laverne sure was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grief is part of losing someone, but the memories are stronger and I pray those will see you through.
