Dorothy Mae Weddell, age 94, of Sac City, IA, passed away at Park View Rehabilitation Center, under hospice care, on Monday, September 26, 2016.  Dorothy was born on February 19, 1922, in Schaller, IA, to George and Lillian (Eggleston) Brown.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church in Schaller and graduated from Schaller High School in 1939.  She completed her education with National Business Training in Sioux City.

On June 15, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Chester Weddell.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Karen and Debi.  Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother, helping on the farm and caring for her daughters.  She also worked as a bookkeeper for Don and for Bert O’Connor for many years.  In 1964, Don and Dorothy moved into Sac City into a new home they built.  Dorothy retired in 1975 and Don passed away on November 6, 1995.

Her special interests included: playing Bridge with friends, volunteering, dancing to Big Band music, golfing, and traveling the world.  She was also active in the community serving on the city council.  As a member of the United Methodist Church, she served as Treasurer for 40 years and taught Sunday school.  She enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a friendly smile and greeting when she would meet you.

Dorothy was very close to her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.   She loved attending their activities and supporting their interests.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Karen Coon of Sac City and Debi Weddell-Schutt and husband Howard of Woodward, IA; grandchildren: Teresa Bruening and husband Greg of Sac City, Stephanie Birt and husband Troy of Woodward, IA, and Johnathon Schutt and wife Alison of Granger, IA; great-grandchildren: Austin and Madison Bruening; Jackson, Oliver, and Oscar Potter; and Augustus Schutt.  Other survivors include her brother Duff Brown and wife Cookie of Ankeny, IA; many extended family members and friends.
