   LaVerne “Pete” Lamaak, age 86, of Wall Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake.

   LaVerne “Pete” Lamaak, the son of Harry and Amanda (Palm) Lamaak, was born north of Wall Lake on July 27, 1930.  He lived his youth and received his education at Wall Lake and was baptized at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake.  Pete faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War serving from February 18, 1953, until his honorable discharge of December 22, 1954.

   Pete was united in marriage to Kate Freese on February 23, 1955, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake and this marriage was blessed with four children: Dennis, Doris, Diana and Dale.  Following their marriage, Pete worked as a farmhand at Battle Creek, Iowa for 8 years.  He and his family then moved to Wall Lake where they were engaged in farming for 14 years.  Pete and Kate then moved to Schleswig, Iowa for 3 years and later returned to Wall Lake where Pete was employed with Reiter Feeds until his retirement.  He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake.

   Pete had many passions in life which included farming, boating, mowing and being an avid fisherman.  Family was very important to Pete and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and playfully teasing them.  Everyone who knew him remembers how Pete loved his polka music and attending polka festivals.

   Pete’s life will always be honored and cherished by his family which include his wife Kate of Wall Lake; his children: Dennis Lamaak of Wall Lake,  Doris (Chris) Mosman of Winfield, Iowa, Diana Obman of Wall Lake, and Dale (Tina) Lamaak of Wall Lake;  his grandchildren: Jacque (Ryan) Renze, Amanda (Richie) Cooley, Josh Mosman and his friend, Kasey, Christina (Chris) Woerdehoff, Jodi Obman and her friend Nate, and Katie Jo Lamaak and her friend, Jay; six great-grandchildren: Abbie Cooley, Mason Cooley, Tyler Renze, Blake Wessling, Jax Renze, and Eli Woerdehoff; his brother Russell (Judy) Lamaak of Wall Lake; other extended family and many friends.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Amanda Lamaak; his brothers: Robert and LeRoy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ralph and Grace Freese; a son-in-law Jeff Wessling; and a grandson Mark Wessling.
