Duane Darrell Straus

Duane Darrell Straus, age 80, of Early, IA, died on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Duane was born on March 20, 1934 to Louis and Luella (Lange) Straus in Storm Lake, IA. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, IA. As a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Early, he served as an Elder and Church Council President. He grew up and graduated high school in Lake View, IA. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army from June 1956 to June 1958.

On September 14, 1958, Duane was united in marriage to Wilma Quail at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. They were the parents to two sons and a daughter; Terry, James and Tammy.

Duane was a farmer and worked for Don’s Farm Supply from 1999 to 2007, but his true love was for his children and family. His grandchildren loved him dearly and he loved spending time with them. As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing dartball.

Those left to mourn his passing include his wife Wilma (Quail) Straus of Early, IA; sons: Terry Straus of Lemoore, CA and James Straus of Schaller, IA; daughter Tammy (Kevin) Sowers of Blaine, MN; sister Delores (Straus) Ellis of Lytton, IA; and grandchildren: Devin Straus, Zachary Sowers, Jessica Sowers, and Christopher Straus; as well as extended family and many friends.
