Robert D. Boom, age 81, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA.  Robert was born January 30, 1935, one of six children, to Forrest and Hilda (Beckman) Boom in Odebolt, IA.  He grew up near Lake View where he attended school graduating at Lake View High School.

     Following graduation, Robert enlisted in the United States Army on November 14, 1957.  When he was honorably discharged he had earned the rank of E-4 and was the top rifleman in his division at 500 yards.

     On June 21, 1958, Bob was united in marriage to Janet Phillips in Camp Hanford, Washington.  This union was blessed with a son, Scott.  They made their home in Lake View where Bob was a member of the Lakes United Methodist Church.

     In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed showing horses and riding.  He worked hard as a truck driver and crane operator providing for his family.  He retired in 1997.  He was a devoted and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother and felt blessed that his son and grandchildren lived so close.  He adored his grandchildren and loved attending their activities.  Bob also loved going for coffee and seeing his friends every day.

     Survivors include his wife, Janet of Lake View; son Scott and wife Lori Boom of Lake View; two grandchildren: Cordel Boom and Carlee Boom; his brother Virgil Boom of San Bernardino, CA; sister-in-law Olive Boom; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

     Bob was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Hilda Boom; sisters: Lavon Miller and Marjory Ludwig; brothers Duane and Darrell; brothers-in-law: Dwight Miller and Pete Ludwig; sisters-in-law: Ida Mae Boom and Fern Boom.
