Malinda “Linda” Wilma Longman, age 97, Sac City, IA, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Linda was born on September 1, 1918, in Wall Lake, IA, to John and Minnie (Rehder) Vogel. She was baptized and confirmed in Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake.
Linda was raised on the farm, one of ten children. She graduated from Wall Lake High School and from Iowa State University in Ames with a degree in business. On October 6, 1940, Linda was united in marriage to Forest Longman at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. They made their home in Sac City and together raised their sons: Gregory and Lance. Forest was part-owner in the Sac City Hatchery, and Linda worked as office manager.
Her family was very important to her. She loved cooking and trying new recipes, attending her sons and grandchildren’s activities, gardening, flowers, music, and was an avid reader. Linda played basketball in high school and her love of sports continued through the years. She loved watching and following her favorite teams on television. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and former organist. Linda enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several card clubs. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to mourn her passing includes her son, Lance and wife Debra of Grinnell, IA; five grandchildren: Lucas (Dette) Longman, Kara (Scott) Zenner, Jeffrey Longman, Douglas (Molly) Longman and Darin Longman; six great-grandchildren: William and Hope Longman; Kinley and Madalyn Zenner; and Eleanor and Emmett Longman; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Forest; son Gregory; grandson Timothy Longman; and all her siblings: Walter Vogel, Paul Vogel, Alice Schroten, Edna Zadow, Ruth Fuller, Martin Vogel, Frieda Wilken, Alvin Vogel, and Gene Vogel.
