Duane "Tocky" Werkmeister

Duane “Tocky” Werkmeister, age 84, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at his home in Lake View. Duane Edward Werkmeister was born on August 30, 1929, to Edward and Bertha (Schoneboom) Werkmeister on a farm southeast of Odebolt, IA. Tocky’s love of farming came at a early age, as his father farmed various locations including: Wall Lake, Lake View, and Odebolt. He attended Viola Township Country School #7.

Tocky was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. On July 19, 1951, Tocky was united in marriage to Marjorie M. Ellis-King. They were blessed with five children: Dianne, Dennis, Rick, Lori and Jeff.

Tocky loved working the land and planting and harvesting his crops each year. He continued farming for his Mother when his dad died in the Wall Lake-Lake View area. Then Tocky and Marge moved to Pocahontas and farmed for 8 years until they moved back to Lake View and farmed until retirement. In 1991 they moved to their lake home in Lake View. He enjoyed fishing, camping, (trading campers often), traveling (especially to Arizona), and tending his garden. His family meant the world to him. Family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy. He was a devoted husband and father and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marge; his children: Dennis Werkmeister of Lake View, Rick (Julie) Werkmeister of Spirit Lake and Lori (Bob) Bogue of Lake View; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Other survivors include his sister Mary Ann Henry of Cedar Falls; brothers: Dale Werkmeister of Denver, CO and Larry (Nadine) Werkmeister of Raymond, IA; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
