Kevin Jay Scharn, age 52, of Lytton, IA, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.  Kevin was born on November 7, 1963, to Edward R. and Evelyn (Ziegler) Scharn in Sac City, IA.  He was baptized December 1, 1963, and confirmed March 19, 1978, at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church where he remained a life-time member.

Kevin graduated from Lytton Consolidated High School with the Class of 1982.  He continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College at Emmetsburg, IA.  On June 24, 1983, Kevin was united in marriage to Susie Seehusen at Elk Point, SD.  This union was blessed with a daughter Tiffany and son Tyler.  They made their home northwest of Lytton.

Kevin was raised on the farm, so farming came naturally to him.  He was anxious for spring to arrive so he could get in the fields and for fall to harvest their crops.  He also raised hogs and established Cedar Creek Farms.  He used to tell his daughter, fun is in farming, but money is in the hogs.  The family enjoyed camping, Kevin could make the best camp fire, he loved to comment how there was a pork chop and sandwich in every can of beer.  He will also be remembered for his hot wings, wine making skills, woodworking, and gardening.  His finish carpentry skills were excellent.  Susie and Kevin traveled the last six years all over the country and loved spending winters in Florida, walking the beach and making many friends along the way.

He received a kidney from his brother-in-law Jeff Seehusen, which allowed him 12 additional years with his family.  He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  Kevin loved his family and celebrating the 4th of July.  It was one of his wishes that they will continue their July 4th celebrations, with all the fireworks, family and friends, as in the past 11 years.

Survivors include his wife Susie Scharn of Lytton; daughter Tiffany (husband J.R.) Evans of Fonda and son Tyler Scharn of Sac City; mother Evelyn Scharn of Lytton; sister Susan (husband Bill) Mattson of Alta, brothers: Randy (wife Linn) Scharn of Fonda, Daryl (friend Wendy Petersen) Scharn of Sac City, Jeff (wife Lynn) Scharn of Peterson, and Brent Scharn of Sac City; grandchildren Landen and Lyla Evans of Fonda;  mother-in-law Bonnie (husband Dale) Pierce of Manson; sisters and brothers-in-law: Christine (husband Scott) Bergren of Fort Dodge, Jason (wife Amy) Seehusen of Fort Dodge and Jeff (wife Jamie) Seehusen of Ames; many nieces and nephews; extended family and a host of friends.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father Edward Scharn and father-in-law John Seehusen.

“I am so sorry for your loss of Kevin, your husband, dad, grandfather, son and brother. Our families shared many times together growing up over the years. Time together is precious and often much too short. Hold each other in your memories and love and keep sharing in the stories you have. You are all in my thoughts in the days to come.”

“My sincere condolences to Kevin's family! I remember Kevin from when he went to ILCC in Emmetsburg. He was good friends with Marty Ricklefs. I worked in the convenience store not too far from the college and they would stop in for gas and what not. Marty liked to give me a bad time and wanted me to go out with him, even though I was engaged. LOL I'm pretty sure Kevin was dating you, Susie, at the time. They had gone home for Christmas break when Marty's life was taken way too soon, just as Kevin's has been. I remember Kevin calling me at work to tell me about Marty's accident. I would have thought it was a joke if he hadn't sounded so shaken. My heart went out to him then and now my heart goes out to you with the loss of Kevin. May God give you the strength and calm you need to get through this very difficult time. Keep the wonderful memories of Kevin alive and in your hearts. God bless all of you!!”
