Margaret "Joan" Stout

Margaret “Joan” Stout, age 80, of Sac City, IA passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Shady Oaks Care Center, Lake City, IA.

Margaret Joan Stout was born on June 17, 1934 to parents Francis and Margaret (Hix) McCorkindale in Storm Lake, IA. She was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Odebolt, IA. She grew up in Odebolt where she attended country school, and later graduated with the class of 1952. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.

Joan was married to Preston H. Stout in Odebolt, IA in 1956. They were blessed with two children: Paul and Jane. She worked as an elementary school teacher from 1954 until her retirement in 1992. She enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, card and game playing, reading, traveling, and listening and singing to music. She was also very active in her community serving in the First Christian Church, on the Library Board, the Welfare Board, Hospital Auxillary, Meals on Wheels, and various other organizations. Joan also shared that she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, overnight guests, quiet rides through the countryside, soft music at bedtime and waking up to KAYL 7:00am news. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children: Paul (Lou Ann) Stout of Westminster, CO, and Jane (Perry) Henely of Lake City, IA; grandchildren: Lee Henely of Palo Alto, CA, Joel Henely of Lake City, IA, Sarah Stout of Bloomington, MN, Grant Stout of Westminster, CO, and Spencer Stout of Westminster, CO.
