Thelma Elaine Musselman, age 91, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Thelma was born on June 14, 1924, to Paul and Beulah (Marrington) Martin in Sac County, IA, near Hanover, IA. She attended 1st grade at Silver Creek School in Ida County, in 1933 moved to Sac County and attended Douglas #4 Country School and in 1937 began high school in Sac City, graduating in 1941. She went on to Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI) at Cedar Falls where she graduated with a 1 year Rural Teacher’s Certificate. She taught two years at Douglas #5 and then on a war emergency certificate, taught 5th and 6th grade in Schaller, IA.
On June 25, 1944, Thelma was united in marriage to William J. Musselman in Schaller, IA, when he came home on leave from his service in Alaska. This union was blessed with five children: Richard, Linda, William, Raymond, and Dave. They made their home near Sac City.
Thelma was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her family and helping Bill on the farm. She worked at the Coast to Coast Store, Park View, Loring Hospital and Nobles Popcorn Farms in Sac City; was a member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, UMW member and group chairman; served as a 4-H leader; and member of the 500 Club. She enjoyed painting and working on crafts. She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children: Richard Musselman of Ames, Linda (Kurt) Stamp of Early, Wm. Paul (Glenna) Musselman of Des Moines, Raymond (Sandy) Musselman of Early, and David (Karen) Musselman of Newell; 10 grandchildren: Susan (Fred) Schiffler, Richie Musselman, Thad (Melissa) Stamp, Jason (Leslie) Stamp, Vickie (Kirk) Prichard, Chris Musselman, Jeremy (Rachel) Musselman, B.J. (Kari) Musselman, Katie (Kevin) Hatch, Michael (Nancy) Musselman; great-grandchildren: Cassandra, Samuel, Grant, Allie, Brian, Seth, Lisa, Dana, Sam, Sally, Addison, Nolan, Hayden, Stella, Tyler, Mandee, Reed, Trevor, Taylor, Tavian, Teggan, Uriel, and Maddox; two great-great grandchildren: Charlie and Aycee; sisters-in-law Bonnie Martin and Elaine Musselman; many extended family members and friends.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Beulah Martin; husband Wm. Musselman; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Eileen Martin; and brother Richard Martin.
