Dennis Paul McAhren, age 68, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016, at St. Lukes Hospital in Sioux City, IA.  Dennis was born on January 15, 1947, to Don and Eunice (Rix) McAhren in Sac City.  He graduated from Sac City High School in 1965 and lettered in football.  After graduation he married the love of his life, Jan Larson on March 16, 1968.

He worked for Lear Siegler Manufacturing (Nobles) as a welder and then foreman until the plant closed.  He then worked for Terracon for about 10 years and also Western Transit Union until his retirement.

Dennis’ true passions in life were family, friends and gardening.  With a garden the size of a city block, he fed a part of Sac City for nearly 30 years.  He loved to have fun and hosted many parties.  Him and his friends even built a 30 foot room onto his house to accommodate all the people.  He helped raise his three granddaughters and loved spending time with his great-grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his cousin Sam McAhren of Waterloo; his wife; parents; and brother Bruce McAhren.

Survivors include his daughter JoAnna; granddaughters: Toni, Danelle, and Shawnee; great-grandchildren: Sophie, Max, Marissa, and Beau, all of Sac City; brother Leon of Waterloo; extended family members and many friends.

“If you get there before I do,

don’t give up on me.

I’ll meet you when my chores are through,

 I don’t know how long I’ll be,

but I’m not going to let you down,

Darling, wait and see.

And between now and then,

till I see you again,

I’ll be loving you.”

“Got to know Dennis after I moved back to Sac from College. And got into the sweet corn business with him, we grew the corn on about 5 acres out on the farm west of Sac where I used to live. We sold the corn downtown in Sac at gas station and traveled as far north as the Lakes. People knew Dennis everywhere and he always had plenty of stories to tell them. It was quite an adventure with with him and I'm thankful for the experience. Actually he was a very concerned father and grandfather and had a religious foundation that he relied on. And in the face of much adversity he always tried to project his inner and happy spirit to others. I'll miss him also.

“My sincerest condolences to McAhren family. Losing a loved one is one of the painful things in this world. It is comforting to know that God deeply cares about us and would soon act to eliminate death. (1 Peter 5:7; Revelation 21:4)”
