Doris Elaine Russell

Doris Elaine Russell, age 85, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN. Doris was born on August 18, 1928, in Cushing, IA, to Edward and Mable (Conklin) Whyte. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church. She attended elementary school in Cushing, IA and graduated from high school at East High in Sioux City, IA. She worked as a waitress at her parents restaurant in Sioux City.

On June 1, 1948, Doris was united in marriage to Kenneth Lubeck. This union was blessed with four children: Terry, Kim, David and Jan. They made their home in Sac City. Doris was a stay at home wife and mother. She enjoyed caring for her family and attending their activities. Kenneth passed away on September 24, 1970. Doris found love again and was united in marriage to Lucian Russell on March 30, 1974. He passed away January 19, 2010.

As a member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City, Doris was active in the Ladies Guild, Circle, Bible Study, Choir and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, card club, walking, dinner dates, Fort Nightly, and judging at the Sac County Fair in the Arts & Crafts Division. Traveling was an important aspect of Doris’s life. She journeyed to all 50 states and to 20 countries. The family has many happy memories at the cottage in Storm Lake.

Survivors include her children: Terry Lubeck of Storm Lake; Kim (Maureen) Lubeck of Lake Panorama, Panora, IA; David (LaDonna) Lubeck of Tomball, TX; and Jan (Frank) Popp of Newell, IA; grandchildren: Courtney (Chris) Rogne, Phillip Lubeck, Kenneth Popp, Karla (Dan) Heflin, Glenn Lubeck, and Carolina Lubeck; great-grandchildren: Brelynne, Knute, and Leif Rogne; her brother Robert Whyte of Sioux City; many extended family members and friends.
