Everett Huisenga, age 97, of Early, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA.
Everett was born on December 24, 1917, to Wibbo and Dena (Brower) Huisenga near Breda, IA. He was baptized in 1919 at the Wheatland Church and was a member of the Early United Methodist Church for many years.
On September 9, 1940, Everett and Ardola Janssen were united in marriage in Sac City. On October 26, 1944, Everett was inducted into the United States Army where he served during WWII with Company A, 25th Medical Detachment Battalion. He earned the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on April 5, 1946 and awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon.
Everett and Ardola lived near Early where together they raised their seven children. Everett worked as a carpenter, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and dancing. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on the 9th of September. He loved his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Ardola; children: Larry Huisenga of Bellevue, NE, Kay Huckins of Vancouver, WA, Cheri (Clinton) Tillman of St. Robert, MO, Lynn Huisenga of Sac City, IA, Lonnie Huisenga of Houston, TX, and Lanny (Deb) Huisenga of Moline, IL; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Donald Huisenga of Marble Falls, TX; sisters: Velma Mason of Marshalltown, IA, and Marilyn (William) Havens of Stewartville, MN; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Deanna Lewis; daughter-in-law Pat Huisenga; son-in-law Ken Huckins; and brothers: Kenneth, Lloyd, Leo, Raymond and Duane.
