Reka Rae Bohm, 65, passed away on  Saturday, September 19, 2015.

Reka was born on September 13, 1950, in Carroll, IA, to Russell and Vera (Susie) Auen. She grew up in Lake View with her aunt and uncle Herman “Kaiser” Auen and Frances “Pam” Auen, who were like second parents to her.   Reka attended Lake View grade school and high school, and after graduating attended Iowa Central Community College to become a medical assistant and then continued her education to become a registered nurse.

Reka was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, and continued to be a life long member.

On September 9, 1972, Reka married Charles (Charlie) Bohm at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View.   This union was blessed with three children: Stuart, Scott, and Staci.  They made their home in Lake View, Iowa, where Reka enjoyed working as a registered nurse, raising her children, and participating in many community activities. She was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View and taught Sunday school.  Reka was a board member of the American Cancer Society, the blood borne pathogen director, and the coordinator of the donations for Blank Children’s Hospital milk bank for neonatal intensive care unit.  She was also a park board member, president of girl’s softball league, a Girl Scout leader, Pier 25 board member, after prom board member, and helped out on the Lake View fire department.

Reka always made time to be with her family and grandchildren.  She enjoyed flowers, her favorite being the African violet, and she liked to go camping.  Reka was a big animal lover, especially for cats.  She was always happy to help others and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her spouse Charlie Bohm of Lake View, IA; children: Stuart (Jennifer) Bohm of Lake View, IA, Scott (Ronda) Bohm of Wall Lake, IA, Staci (Chris) Potthoff of Carroll, IA; grandchildren: Taylor Bohm, Tanner Bohm, Timothy Bohm, Bentley Potthoff, Kendrick Rae Potthoff; brothers: Mark (Tami) Auen of Lake View, IA, Robert (Dee) Auen of Lake View, IA; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Vera (Susie); aunt and uncle Herman and Frances Auen; grandparents: Mark and Jennie Warren and Dick and Reka Auen.

Upon death in Lieu of Flowers, friends and family,

please perform a random act of kindness as a wonderful way to honor Reka.

Please share your act with Charlie or family member.
