Richard “Mike” Tygret, age 73, of Sac City, IA, formerly of Ottumwa and Spencer, IA, passed away at his home in Sac City on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Mike was born on February 17, 1942, in Jefferson City, MO, to Richard Howard and Mary Isabell (Gibb) Tygret. He received his elementary education at Albia, IA and Ottumwa, IA and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1960. He continued his education at Parsons College in Fairfield, IA.
On August 17, 1963, Mike was united in marriage to Marilyn “Jane” Rusch in Ottumwa. This union was blessed with a son Richard and daughter Janet. They made their home in Cheyenne, WY and Spencer, IA. Mike worked for Brown’s Shoe Fit in Cheyenne before moving to Spencer, where he owned and operated Redmond’s Shoes for many years.
Mike loved to quote a plaque he had on the wall, “Faith, Family, Baseball & Friends”. These are the most important things in life and he lived up to that. He loved sports and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. He was very involved with his family and grandchildren’s lives and activities and adored their puppies. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Jane of Sac City; son Richard Matthew Tygret and wife Denyse of Cheyenne, WY; daughter Janet Elaine Brouwer and husband Scott of Sac City; grandchildren: Max Tygret and fiancée Deandra Metcalfe and her children Hayden and Brooks of Cheyenne, WY and the impending birth of his first great grandchild Richard Tygret, Jenny Brouwer and boy friend Anthony Allen of Storm Lake, IA, Josie Mohlis and husband Michael of Cheyenne, WY, and Sarah Brouwer of Sac City. Other survivors include his sister Maggi Tygret Bradley and husband Greg of Cottonwood, AZ; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mary; brother Robert S. Tygret; and sister Christina J. Tygret.
