Ann Johnson, age 83, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Betty Ann Jarvis Johnson was born June 26, 1931, to Lawrence and Annabel (Rodgers) Jarvis. Ann went to live with Merle and Neva Bechler in 1940 after the death of her mother. While with the Bechler’s she attended several schools in Sac County and graduated High School in Rembrandt. From there she went on and graduated from the St. Anthony School of Nursing with an RN degree.
On September 5, 1953, Ann married Virgil Johnson of Sac City at the First Baptist Church. Ann worked as an RN in Loring Hospital until 1957 when the family moved to Burnside, IA for three years. From there they moved to Paton, IA for three years before moving to a farm north east of Sac City where they resided until 2000 when they retired from farming and moved to Ann’s dream house where she lived until the final five days of her life which was spent in the hospital. She will be dearly missed by many family members and friends.
She was called Grandma by most of the young people in the Faith Bible Church in Sac City. Her family and church family meant everything to her. She was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed attending church and was a wonderful Christian example to others. She attended Bible Studies and also led others in the study of God’s word. She loved music and was in the choir and sang many solos in church. She was also a member of a couple card clubs and enjoyed entertaining in her home. Ann also loved traveling and seeing God’s country. She went as often as possible to visit daughter Dianne and family in Texas. She loved watching the different birds that came to feed at the many feeders at their home in town, and also enjoyed watching deer and squirrels, and the changing of the season’s.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband of 60+ years, Virgil; son Michael Johnson of Sac City; daughter Dianne (Mark) McWhirter of The Colony, TX; son David (friend Connie) Johnson of Sac City; grandchildren: Lisa (Chris Smith) Johnson of Fort Dodge, Matthew (friend Melissa) Johnson of Sac City, Brittney McWhirter (friend Brenton) of Wichita Falls, TX, and Ashley (Dustin) Lamb of Wichita Falls, TX; great-grandchildren: Madeline, Bradley and Kieler Smith, Ashtin Lamb, and William Caten; brother James Jarvis of Sacramento, CA; sisters: Peg (Don) Purdy of Des Moines, Janet Hutchinson of Sac City, Colleen Hampton of Knoxville, and Carolyn (John) Bechler-Meng of Prairie du Chien, WI; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
