Gladys Elizabeth Hawks, age 91, of Lake View, IA, passed away at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA, on Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
Gladys was born on August 29, 1923, in Coon Valley Township, Sac County, IA, to Frederick and Alvina (Mohr) Luckow. She graduated from Lake View Public School in 1941. She was baptized, confirmed, and a devoted lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View.
Gladys was united in marriage to Donald Ivan Hawks on November 12, 1944, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. Don and Gladys were blessed with three children: Trudy, David, and Charles. Gladys worked at the Sac County Treasurer’s Office and also as a bookkeeper at Lake View Concrete and Tile Co. Earlier in her life, she worked at Ray’s Super Value and Koessel’s Grocery Store in Lake View.
Gladys was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Doves at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed ballroom dancing at Lakewood Ballroom and playing cards. She was hardworking and loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Gladys will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter, Trudy Robeson of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Kelly (Jim) Salker of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Heidy Robeson of Omaha, NE, and Lauren Hawks of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren: Cole, Cody, and Emma Salker of Sergeant Bluff, and Ahtreil Simpson of Omaha; sisters-in-law: Evie Luckow of Ramona, CA, and Kathryn Erps of Carroll, IA; and many nephews, nieces, and extended family members.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Charles Hawks (in infancy) and David Hawks, daughter-in-law Deb Hawks, twin sisters Alma (Rev. Frederick) Wiese and Velma Luckow, and brother Wilmer “Lucky” Luckow.
