Michael Henry Shelp, age 61, of Carroll, IA, formerly of Auburn, IA, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-West Lakes, West Des Moines, IA.

Michael was born on March 10, 1953, to James J. and Darlene Mary (Ortner) Shelp in Lake City, IA. He grew up in Auburn where he received his elementary education at St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Lake View/Auburn High School with the class of 1971. He continued his studies at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. He worked at Farmland Foods in Denison, IA until 1999 when his health forced his to retire.

Michael loved riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, riding in many of the local Poker Runs, collecting Toys for Tots, and making Kaleidoscopes. He was the State Backgammon Champion. Michael especially loved spending time with his brothers and sister and nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his sister, Pat Kelly and husband Bob of Lake View; brothers: Jim Shelp and wife Sherry of Glenbeulah, WI, Tom Shelp and wife Cindy of Auburn, and Keith Shelp and wife Theresa of Templeton; nieces and nephews: Stephanie, Sheila, Stacy, Tanya, McKensie, Lindsey, Austin, Julie and Andy; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
