David M. “Pete” Peterson, age 70, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. David was born on July 1, 1945, to Dale and Anne (Larson) Peterson in Laurens, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Christian Church in Laurens and graduated from Laurens High School with the class of 1963. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1966 at Wayne State College and Masters of Science in Education at Drake University in 1988.
David was united in marriage to Lorraine Kay Petersen at the First Christian Church in Laurens on August 29, 1965. They were blessed with three children: Jennifer, Scott, and Amy. Pete was a high school social studies teacher for 37 years at Lake View. One of his personal goals during his teaching career was to get as many seniors as possible registered to vote with a full understanding of our democratic form of government. He retired in 2004.
Pete was a huge sports fan, especially all ISU athletic events. He loved to sing, talk politics and was involved with anything concerning LVA, WLVA, and ESCO. He served on the City Council, coordinated the water carnival “Run for Fun”, announced volleyball games and the water carnival street parade. He served on the Library Board, coached the WLVA Golf team, football field groundskeeper at LVA and enjoyed keeping football stats for LVA and WLVA for about 25 years. Pete and Lorraine wintered in Texas, enjoyed their coffee pals at Kathy’s Korner, cruising in his convertible, and boating on Black Hawk Lake. Pete was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family and grandchildren meant the world to him. He loved attending all their activities and spending time with them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pete was a member of Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir for 45 years, lay leader, and Conference Delegate. He loved his church family and community and gave of himself to all. He will be missed.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of Lake View; his children: Jennifer Mangin of Mission, TX, Scott (Nancy) Peterson of Lake View, and Amy (Paul) Carpenter of Carroll; brother-in-law Steve Mustain of Kalamazoo, MI; sister-in-law Mary Jane (Chuck) Black of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Christian (Jenn) Mangin of Mission, TX, Andrew Mangin of San Marcos, TX, Robert Peterson of Ames, Daniel and Emily Mangin of Mission, TX, James and Jacqueline Peterson of Lake View, and Carter Carpenter of Carroll; many extended family members and a host of friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Anne Peterson; grandparents Elmer and Clara Larson and Martin and Jesse Peterson; sisters: Ruthanne Peterson and Jean Mustain; parents-in-law Herbert and Phyllis Petersen.
