Leonard W. Peters, age 87, of Breda, IA, passed away at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, IA, on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Leonard was born on September 2, 1927, near Carnarvon, IA, to Herman and Tollie (Meyer) Peters. He was a longtime member of Wheatland Presbyterian Church in Breda.
Leonard grew up near Carnarvon, attended country school by Lake View and graduated from Lake View High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On September 28, 1950, Leonard was united in marriage to Norma Huisenga at Wheatland Presbyterian Church. This marriage was blessed with five children: Jean, Elaine, Karen, Mark and John.
Leonard loved farming and his family. He cared for his crops and livestock and provided for his family’s needs. He was a hard worker but took time to be with his family and attend their activities. He enjoyed all sports, socializing with friends, car races, and going to the casino. He was a member of the Breda American Legion. His infectious laughter will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children: Elaine and husband Carl Berry of West Des Moines, Mark and wife Kristi Peters of Breda and John and wife Kelli Peters of Urbandale; son-in-law Mike Petersen of Urbandale; grandchildren: Maddi, Karli, Brad and Colin Peters; step-grandchildren: Stephanie (John) Reinhardt, Mike Berry, Carey (Jon) Anderson and Alexa Guessford. Other survivors include his brother Lester and wife Kandi Peters of Wall Lake; sister Betty and husband Lowell Rohlff of Carroll, NE; and many extended family members.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma; daughters: Jean Peters and Karen Petersen; brother Kenny; and sister Darlene Chaffee.
The family has requested memorials to the Carroll County Honor Flight.
