Duane “Scotty” Scott Hoaglund, age 83, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on June 8, 2015, at North Iowa Hospice House, Mason City, IA.
Scotty Hoaglund was born to parents Allen and Elna (Brucker) Hoaglund on March 11, 1932, in Arthur, IA. Scotty attended grade school and high school in Wall Lake, IA until 1950.
He joined the United States Navy on January 5, 1951 and served in the Korean War, he was honorably discharged from the US Navy on November 4, 1954. Scotty made his home in Wall Lake and was the proud father of four children: Debbie, Cheri, Kevin and Kim.
Scotty owned his own Rendering Service and worked for National By-Products of Carroll until retirement. He traveled many miles over the years and made many friends. He retired in 1994.
Scotty was light on his feet and enjoyed ballroom dancing and listening to Big Band music. He never turned down the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. Scotty enjoyed his family and the many friends he had made over the years and was never too busy to sit and visit.
Scotty was never alone, as his constant companion “Patches” was always at his side. Scotty will be missed by his many friends and loving family.
Scotty is survived by his daughters: Debbie Schlicher, Orange, TX, and Cheri (Larry) Schoneboom, Lake View, IA, son, Kevin Hoaglund, Colo, IA, and daughter, Kim (Jay) Claude, Rowan, IA; grandchildren: Deke Schlicher, Houston, TX, Francene (Matt) Cole, Annapolis, MD, Jamie (Brenda) Schoneboom, Wall Lake, IA, Matt Schoneboom, Wall Lake, IA, Nicci (Jason) Gruszeczka, Carroll, IA, Jessie (Cassandra) Hoaglund, Audubon, IA, and Samantha Goetz, Audubon, IA; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters: Myrna (Gary) Kruse, Lake View, IA, and Jan (Ray) Fredrichs, Carnarvon, IA; ex-wife Shirley Hoaglund; and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Elna Hoaglund; grandson Matthew Loew, and ex-wife Hester (Landreneau) Hoaglund.
