The family requests memorials to Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Mission Projects.

Berniece Katherine Caroline Snyder, 97, long-time resident of Lytton, passed away early on May 1, 2015, at Sunset Knoll Care Center in Aurelia, IA.  Berniece had an unwavering faith in God, and her longing for Heaven was finally answered.

Berniece was born at home near Jolley, IA on July 29, 1917 to Alfred and Josephine (Johnson) Graeber.  She had one brother, Merle.  The family moved to a farm NE of Lytton and she spent her childhood there.   She attended Lytton schools through 10th grade, when she had to stop and take care of her mother.

She met her future husband at a dance, and in 1938, she and Raymond Snyder eloped to Minnesota.   To this union were born four children.  She and Ray farmed near Sac City, Winterset, Lake City, and then Jolley.  Berniece and Ray attended Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton all their married life and served the church in many ways.  They retired from farming in 1983 and moved in to Lytton, but their retirement found them plowing snow, mowing lawns, reading rural electric meters, doing maintenance on three of the retirement homes in Lytton, and continued support of upkeep projects at their church.   Berniece was well known for the hundreds of quilts she made.  She made so many quilts that she lost count.  Most were given to the outreach center and an orphanage.

After Ray's death in 1992, Berniece continued to live in Lytton until 2002, when she moved to WEL-Life Assisted Living in Alta, IA.  In 2013, she moved to Sunset Knoll in Aurelia.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, and one great-grandson.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children:  Raymond (Darlene) Snyder, Jr. of Storm Lake, IA,  Patricia (Gordon) Andersen of Alta, IA,  William (Linda) Snyder of Greeley, CO, and Kenneth (Judy) Snyder of Muscatine, IA; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and 4 nieces and nephews.
