Michael James Anglum, age 85, of Sac City, IA, passed away at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA, on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.  Michael was born to Gerald A. and Vera N. (Freeman) Anglum in rural Sac City, IA, on August 2, 1929.  He attended rural school until the third grade when his parents moved to a farm south of Early, IA.  He finished his schooling in the Early school system, graduating from the 12^th grade in 1947.

   Following graduation, Michael enlisted in the U. S. Navy on June 30, 1948, and took his basic training in San Diego, CA, and then signed up for submarine school and served the rest of his four years on the Tiru and Seafox submarines and was stationed in Pearl Harbor.  He was discharged on June 24, 1952.

   On February 16, 1957, he married Myrtle Thaelia Quail, who is commonly known as Sally, and at the same time gained a step-daughter, Angela Kay.  Together they had one son, Gerald Vernerd.

   He was baptized at the First Christian Church in Sac City on April 19, 1970, and remained a member there until his death.

   Michael was a trucker who started driving for his cousin, Lynn Freeman, and later became an owner/operator and drove for over 50 years, having traveled in 47 states during his career.  Later he sold his truck, but even then he wasn’t ready to retire and continued driving for local truckers and farmers. 

   He enjoyed spending time with family and his cocker spaniel, Sonny, reading western books, fishing in Wisconsin, but most of all he enjoyed spending the winter months in Texas.  Even after having to go to the care center, he couldn’t give up the idea of going to Texas and would show the nurses the route we would take to get there.

   Mick passed away at the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, on April 22, 2015.  He is survived by his wife Sally; stepdaughter Angela (Lynn) Garrels; sister Donna Mae Herman; grandchildren: Jodi (Chris) Zimmerman, Steven (Melissa) Garrels, Katie (Wesley) Curtis, Michael A. Anglum and Kyle James (Kathryn) Anglum; great-grandchildren: Adison Anglum, Jaxon Zimmerman, Piper Garrels, Brycen Curtis and Brinnley Curtis.  Other survivors include sisters-in-law: Doris Stoffregen, Elaine Mauer, Wilma Straus and Josephine Schmidt; his brother-in-law John Mauer, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Vera; father and mother-in-law Vern and Mabel Quail; son Gerald; sister Margene Obee; brothers-in-law: William Dorrh (Mildred), Harold (Elva Mae), Leonard (Joyce), and Gerald Quail; Edwin Stoffregen, Maynard Lucht, Duane Straus, Kenneth Ernst, and Robert C. Schmidt, and sister-in-law Phyllis Lucht and Patricia Ernst.
