Mark Determann

Mark Vernon Determann passed away on July 12, 2014 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle of cancer. He was born October 6, 1955 in Schaller, IA to Melvin and Darlene (Haack) Determann. He attended grade school in Odebolt, Early, and Wall Lake as the family moved to various places. At age 12 his father passed away. In high school, Mark was in the swing choir, ran track, and played football. He and his brother Ken learned to work on and repair their own cars so they could get to various jobs. Mark graduated in 1975 from Crestland High School in Early, Iowa.

Mark was united in marriage to Joyce Fischer on August 30, 1980 and this union was blessed with two daughters. Mark worked for his Uncle Scott Waldstein as a farm hand and took correspondence classes for electrical work while he worked as a janitor at the Early school. In 1982, Mark and Joyce moved to Wall Lake, where he worked for the Wall Lake Hardware Store as an electrician/ plumber and a contracted electrician for the City of Wall Lake. Mark did have his own electrical business for several years before working full time for the City of Wall Lake as a utilities manager.

Mark retired on May 16, 2014 due to his declining health. He loved to hunt, target shoot, collect guns, reload shells and spend time with his grandchildren. Mark was a member of the Wall Lake Fire Department for 25 years, as well as a member of the Wall Lake Lions Club. He was very proud of his two girls and all of their accomplishments. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joyce; his two daughters Tara Determann (Kyle C. Peterson) of Des Moines, IA and Shawna Determann (fiancé Matt Tobin) of Iowa City, IA; his mother Darlene Garrels of Wall Lake, IA; his brother Ken (Sue) Determann of Wall Lake, IA; five grandchildren: Jayden Hunter and Ava Peterson; and Kyle L., Kay-Lynn, and Chase Peterson; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
