Bernice Brotherson, age 97, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
Bernice was born June 1, 1917, near Westside, IA, to Edward and Anna (Aschinger) Jons. She grew up on a farm north of Westside, IA, and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1934. She continued her studies at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA.
On June 1, 1941, Bernice married the love of her life, Harold Brotherson at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha, NE. They lived in Vail and Denison for eight years prior to moving to Wall Lake. Bernice worked at Quaker Oats Popcorn Plant in Wall Lake for many years. She retired in 1982.
As a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake she enjoyed the fellowship and activities of the Ladies Circle. Bernice kept busy with her gardening and loved keeping records of family events and genealogy. She enjoyed visiting and helping family and friends, baking and volunteering at Twilight Acres. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her numerous nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her; sisters-in-law: Rowene Roth of Las Vegas, NV and Norma Brotherson of Sioux City, IA; and extended family members.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna Jons; husband Harold Brotherson; sister Ione Andersen; and brother Arlo Jons.
