Mary Martha Rahn, age 93, of Sac City, IA, passed away at Loring Hospital in Sac City on February 26, 2015. Mary was born on December 9, 1921, to parents George and Emma (Hall) Irwin in rural Sac County, IA. Mary attended country school and graduated from Sac City High School on May 26, 1938.
On September 9, 1940, Mary was united in marriage to Russell Sage Rahn in Muscatine, IA. This union was blessed with three children: Bruce, Darlo and Joan.
Over the years, Mary worked at Super Value, The Canning Factory and later became self-employed cleaning houses and businesses in Sac City. In her spare time she often enjoyed reading, doing puzzle books and just simply taking a phone call from family members or friends. Mary was well known for her delicious apple dumplings, angel food cakes and banana bread. Mary loved taking care of her family, whether it be going shopping or eating Chinese with her sister Alice. She was always looking forward to preparing the next family meal so she could get everyone together. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her two sons: Bruce (Bonnie) Rahn of Sac City, IA, Darlo (Kim) Rahn of Sac City, IA; daughter Joan Rahn Prichard (Bill Wallerstedt) of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Eric (Heidi) Rahn of Seattle, WA, David (Randi) Rahn of Mitchellville, IA, Jerry (Amy) Rahn of Sac City, IA, Jessica Ernst of Holstein, IA, Sara Prichard (Chris Coats) of Ames, IA, Jesse Prichard of Ames, IA; great-grandchildren: Abby Strandberg of Sac City, IA, Colby Strandberg of Sac City, IA, Lexi Gerry of Sac City, IA, Derek Rahn of Sac City, IA, Janessa Rahn of Holstein, IA; Zander Ernst of Holstein, IA, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents George and Emma Irwin; husband Russell Rahn; siblings Catherine Johnson, Harold Irwin, Clarence Irwin, Kenneth Irwin, Alice Huisenga; grandchild Heather Strandberg.
