Rose LaVon (Rubendall) Nielsen, age 88, of Early, IA, passed away on December 26, 2014, at Casa de Paz Nursing Home in Sioux City, IA. Rose was born September 30, 1926, in Sac City, IA, the daughter of Oscar and Rose (Hook) Rubendall. The family farmed south of Sac City where Rose attended country school and graduated from Sac City High School.
She married Ervin P. Nielsen on September 2, 1945, in Sac City. The couple resided in Early, IA, where Rose was a loving housewife while working in the local department store.
She was a member of the Early United Methodist Church and Women’s Club. She found time while raising their son Wayne, to be a Sunday School/Bible School Teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, Neighborhood Birthday Club host, school music booster, faithful church volunteer and friend to many in the community. She enjoyed gardening and providing floral arrangements to various organizations. She was an accomplished seamstress having fashioned state fair award winning quilts and tablecloths. Her favorite past time was spent being grandma and aunt Rose.
Rose is survived by her son Wayne and his wife Colleen of Sgt. Bluff, IA; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include two loving sisters: Bernice Nicholson of Indianola, IA and Charlotte (Stanley) Allen of Odebolt, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
