Thomas J. Snyder

Thomas J. Snyder, age 70, of Early, IA, passed away on August 30, 2014 at his home. Tom was born in Lake View, IA, in the doctor’s office on September 5, 1943, the son of Pernell and Marie (Bengford) Snyder, living 3 miles south of Sac City on the farm. He was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City, made his first communion and was confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. Tom graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids, IA in 1962. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Pernell and Marie Snyder.

In February 1966, Tom was inducted into the United States Air Force having basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, then second phase basic training at Amarillo, TX, and flowing training in Wichita Falls, TX. After completion of training he was given permanent station at Stewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, TN in the 4442nd Combat Training Wing. He then went to Ching Chuan Kang Air force Base in Taiwan pulling TDY to Tawau, Vietnam. He later transferred to Yokota Air Force Base in the 556th Recon Squadron pulling TDY to Cam Ran Bay in Vietnam and Osan Air Force Base in South Korea until February 11, 1970.

Tom married Kathy R. (Richardson) Snyder and three children were born to this union: Brad, Julie and Michelle. Tom worked and built power lines for 45 years. He worked 37 years for the L. E. Myers Co., and then for Common Wealth Electric, Tyee Electric, Hooper Corp, and Vermont Electric Co. He lived in Iowa, Washington, California, Florida and Vermont working on the power lines.

Those thankful for sharing his life are Kathy Snyder his wife from Early; son Brad and (Connie) Snyder from Holstein, daughters: Julie (Luke) Carlson of Early, and Michelle (Nathan) Hines also of Early; plus 10 grandchildren: : Spencer, Nicole, Savanna, Andrew, Destiny, Sydney, T.J. Antone, Robert, Sawyer ; brother Richard Snyder of Early; sister Rose (John) Pollpeter of Nauvoo, Il; and extended family members. Tom’s wife and three children and 10 grandchildren were always the love of his life.
