Rita M. Johnson

Rita M. Johnson, age 88, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Unity Point Health Center in Des Moines, IA.Rita was born on August 25, 1926, at Mount Carmel, IA, to Frank and Christina (Arling) Loeffelholz. She attended school at Mount Carmel Catholic School.

On July 7, 1949, Rita was united in marriage to George A. Johnson. This union was blessed with six daughters: Jean, Joan, Shirley, Bonnie, Janet, and Janette. Rita was a busy farm wife and mother, caring for her husband and daughters. She and George farmed close to Wall Lake. Rita left the farm after George’s death, moving to Lake View, Lidderdale and eventually Des Moines. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. Some of everyone’s favorites were her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. She loved being with her family, everyone had a special place in her heart.

Rita was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughters: Jean (Francis) Shade of Des Moines; Joan Johnson of Urbandale; Shirley Johnson of Okoboji; Bonnie Johnson of West Des Moines; Janet Johnson of Lidderdale; and Janette (Jim) Lee of Cedar Rapids; two grandsons: Christopher (Beth) Shade of Madrid, IA and Anthony (JoAnna) Shade of Marengo, IA; three great-grandchildren: Sean, Hannah, and Maddie; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
