Betty Lois Rubendall, age 89, of Sac City, IA, passed away on September 24, 2014. Betty was born in Auburn, IA to Everett and Bessie Finley on September 20, 1925. Abiding by her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetary, Auburn, IA will be held at a later date.
After high school Betty earned her teaching certificate and taught at a country school house. On December 25, 1944 Betty was united in marriage to Oscar Rubendall, Jr. They were blessed with nine children. Betty and Oscar farmed until 1970 when they moved into town. Over the years, in addition to being the World's Best Cook, a devoted wife, full-time mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she also worked as a nurse's aide for 20 years at Park View Manor. Her proudest moment was having her co-workers bestow her the honor of being named "The Sunshine Girl". She enjoyed her friends from the Senior Center, especially playing the card game Hand and Foot (Bingo was a close second), Rummy with her family, tending her flowers, feeding and watching her "backyard"friends, and having pie and coffee at Kathy's Korner in Lake View, IA with many of her friends and family. She also missed her cat, Maverick. Oh that cat. It lived its full 9 lives, was tough, sassy, and gorgeous. A lot like Betty herself.
Survivors include her children: Lonnie Rubendall; Leon (Roxy) Rubendall; Todd Rubendall; Vernon Rubendall all of Sac City, IA; Linda(Joe) Passow of Duncomb, IA; Loreli (Jim) Anderson of Sugar Land, TX; Loretta Mallett of Cape Canaveral, FL; and Tricia Olsson of Stafford, VA; 16 adored grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Her brothers and sisters: Larry (Cindy) Finley of Auburn, IA; Roger(Marie) Finley of Chandler, AZ; Wanda Borgeson of Omaha, NE; and Beverly Onken of Glidden, IA; many extended family members and friends.
