Rita L. Griffin, age 85, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.
Rita Lee Turner was born in Sikeston, Missouri, on October 16, 1928, the daughter of Robert and Frances (Clodfelter) Turner. She married her sweetheart, Billy Griffin, on December 7, 1944. A daughter, Cynthia, was born in 1946. The family moved to Iowa in 1947, where Bill opened a cabinet shop in Carnarvon. In 1949, they moved to Lake View where Rita was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, playing cards, entertaining and flowers.
Rita’s love of flowers and natural ability to create artistic arrangements were guiding points for her to open her own flower shop in 1978 called Rita’s Floral. She provided the folks of Lake View with flowers for all occasions. Rita enjoyed the work and was always willing to help during weddings, funerals or anytime to put a smile on your face with her flowers and gifts.
She enjoyed cooking, always saying, “are you hungry”, to her family, friends and especially her beloved cat, Dollie. Rita liked to work word searches, crochet and sew. She enjoyed her daily dinners at the 60+, where she would visit with her friends. Rita liked traveling to the casino with Mary Ann, who always called to make sure Rita was well. She continued working with flowers at her home and every day, would make sure the birds and squirrels were fed. Rita loved to sit on her swing and wave at folks as they drove by.
