George Dale Hummel, age 83, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. George was born on January 5, 1931, in Odebolt, IA, the son of Erwin and Jessie (Auen) Hummel. He was baptized in the Methodist Church in Odebolt and graduated from Odebolt High School where he excelled in football. He completed his education with two years of college. George enlisted in the United States Army, serving from February 1952 through June 1954, earning the rank of Pvt E1.
George farmed south of Sac City, worked for Trojan Seed Company delivering seed corn, and drove trucks over the road for many years. In 1982, George and Donna Lee Hayes were united in marriage in Nevada. They made their home south of Sac City close to John Criss’ Tree Farm. They lived there until recently, when poor health caused them to move into Park View.
George loved all sports. He was an avid Nebraska Football Fan and “Cubs” fan, spending Sunday afternoons with friends watching the games and enjoying their fellowship. George often chauffeured his friends to various coffee shops or out for supper. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Sac City.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Sac City; brother Robert Lee Hummel of Florida; sister JoAnn Clark of Arizona; many extended family members and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents and brother Erwin Hummel, Jr.
