Marc Dettmann

Marc Dettmann, age 57, of Lytton, IA, was reunited with his wife on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at his home in Lytton surround by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on January 23, 1955, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Marc was the youngest child of Laverne and Marjorie (Lille) Dettmann. He was baptized in March 1955 and confirmed March 30, 1969, at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton. He graduated from Lytton Community School with the class of 1973. He briefly attended I.S.U.

On April 19, 1974, Marc was united in marriage to Laurie Barrett at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Fonda, IA. They made their home near Lytton where Marc farmed and was a rural mail carrier out of the Lytton and Sac City Postal Departments. Marc lived life to the fullest, enjoying many hobbies including: scuba-diving, golfing, bowling, storm chasing and drag racing. He loved messing around in his shop with anything that had a motor to make it go faster. He was a member St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City, Chief of the Lytton Fire Department, and was on the Fonda Golf Board. But most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends.

Marc was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his son Christopher Dettmann and wife Melanie of Badger, IA; daughters: AnnMarie Gerke and husband Ryan of Polk City and Nancy Mentzer and husband Kurt of Sac City; eight grandchildren: Kailee Rae, Corey Michael and Laina Jane Dettmann; Beau Ryan, Carlee Jane, and Audree Marie Gerke; and Marcus Allen and Elodie Jane Mentzer. Other survivors include his significant other, Gloria Johnson of Lytton and her family; sister Denise Lake and husband Dar of Lytton; brother Dana Dettmann and his significant other Michelle Suggitt of Sac City; his in-laws: Sharon and Tim Stauter of Fonda; Mike and Laurie Barrett of Pomeroy; Perry and Colleen Barrett of Pocahontas; Ron Barrett of Des Moines; and Linda and Curt Carson of Germany; many extended family members and friends.
