John Edward Vrana, age 81, of Sac City, IA died Friday, November 14, 2014, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. John was born on May 9, 1933, in Manilla, IA, to John and Mary (Saunders) Vrana. He attended grade school and high school in Manilla, IA. On September 21, 1953, John joined the army ranking as Private, first class and then was discharged on September 20, 1955.
John was united in marriage to Dorothy Joan (Wilson) Vrana and was blessed with a son and five daughters. The couple was later divorced in 1971.
John had many different jobs including working at Lange’s Dairy, Hansen Silo, and Noble’s Manufacturing and for area farmers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting different things, and building custom dog houses and small buildings. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include Joan Vrana; his five daughters: Bonnie (Bruce) Rahn of Sac City, IA, Debra (Richard) Straight of Arthur, IA, Judy (Greg) Peck of St. James, MN, Susan (Robert) Berger of Humboldt, NE, and Marie (Robert) Kirsch of Cedar Rapids, IA; Grandchildren: Eric (Heidi) Rahn of Seattle, WA, David (Randi) Rahn of Mitchellville, IA, Nicole Campbell of Carroll, IA, Benjamin Peck of Minneapolis, MN, Tyler Peck of St. James, MN, Christine (Warren) Meyer of Dubuque, IA, Amy Millikin of Belleview, NE, Adam (Christine) McCubbin of Waverly, IA, Matthew (Christine) McCubbin of Claire, IA, Elaine (Brian) Burton of Charles City, IA, Christopher Theis of Sioux City, IA, Jesse Theis of Clarinda, IA, and Holly Theis of Alpena SD; 27 Great-Grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
