Arlin John Bunge was born on April 9, 1940 to John and Luella (Nutzman) Bunge at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa. He was baptized the same month at Peace Lutheran Church, Wall Lake, Iowa. Arlin was confirmed on April 11, 1954. He was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, Wall Lake, Iowa.
Arlin J. Bunge, age 74, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake. Arlin grew up in rural Odebolt where he attended country school and then graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1958. On April 17, 1966, he married Judith Flink. Arlin and Judy had two children, Crystal and Todd. Throughout his adult life, Arlin did day labor and farmed. He also worked for Cracker Jack Popcorn Company in Odebolt. The company later changed hands to the Iowa Popcorn Company. He worked in the popcorn business for 15 years and then worked at Lake View Concrete for 6 years, all while he continued to farm.
Arlin actively served the community as a county trustee for Levey Township and as a member of the Sac County Solid Waste Commission. He also served on several church committees including the Christmas Committee, Stewardship Committee and Evangelism Committee. Arlin’s health began to decline in 1996 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Due to declining health, Arlin retired from farming and the family moved to Wall Lake in 2000. Due to health complications, Arlin entered Twilight Acres Nursing Home in December 2008.
Arlin loved trains and old tractors! He would spend hours reading about trains and tractors and enjoyed collecting both. Arlin also enjoyed working with wood, tinkering around the garage and spending time with the family dog, Sadie. Arlin had a quick sense of humor and liked to tell funny stories and jokes. He was a fan of polka music and Sousa marches.
