Mairlys Rehm, age 91 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Park View Rehabilitation Center surrounded by loved ones and prayers.
   Born on May 30, 1935, in Sac City, IA, Mairlys Jean Schoneboom was the daughter of Fike and Minnie (Gerdes) Schoneboom. She was raised in Sac City and graduated from Sac Community High School in 1953. Within one week that spring, Mairlys turned 18, graduated from high school, and was married to the love of her life, Edmund Rehm.  

   Ed and Mairlys were married on June 4, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sac City. They were married for 73 years and were blessed with five children: David, Cynthia, Kathy, Mary and Sandra. She did have a claim to fame–she was the very first baby delivered by local doctor C. D. Gibson, and he then went on to deliver all five of her children.
   Ed and Mairlys were farmers for 50 years in the Sac City area. When she was not in the fields with Ed or painting tractor wheels or gas barrels, Mairlys was working at the State Bank in bookkeeping, Sernett's variety store or Loring Hospital in the dietary department where she retired from in 2007. She was a very hard worker and was dedicated to everything she accomplished. She was active at St. Mary’s Parish serving as Guild Secretary and teaching Religious Education. Mairlys was the heartbeat of her family–teaching life skills and keeping the household running smoothly.
   Mairlys raised chickens and had a big garden on the farm where she grew a large variety of vegetables and preserved them to feed the family all year long. She was a wonderful cook and showed her love in the special meals she prepared.
   Mairlys had many hobbies throughout her life. She was an avid reader, painted ceramics which she gifted to many of her family members, knitted afghans and was an excellent seamstress. She sewed many of her children’s clothes for special occasions. One lovely memory and keepsake was the beautiful Barbie clothes she made which included evening gowns and dinner coats. She also loved to roller skate and taught all of her kids how to skate as well. In high school, she was a majorette in the marching band and later passed on her baton twirling talents to her daughter, Cindy.
   Mairlys and Ed did some traveling over the years as farming would permit. They vacationed in Orlando, Colorado, Branson, the Black Hills and traveled with friends along the Gulf Coast. They also loved to go camping on weekends with friends and family and had so many special memories of those fun times.
   Mairlys was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
   Mairlys is survived by her husband Edmund of Sac City; son David (Mary Jo) of Carroll, IA; daughters Cynthia (Randy) Jensen of West Des Moines, IA, Kathy (Ron) Ridnour of Ames, IA, Mary (Rob) Gale of Gravette, AR, and Sandra (Dean) Montgomery of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Eric (Jenny) Rehm, Brian (Abi) Rehm, Christopher (Kristin) Jensen, Patrick (Sarah) Jensen, Ryan (Sarah) Ridnour, Melissa (Michael) Mlakar, Mitchell (Lisa) Ridnour, William Gale, Robert (Nessie) Gale, Andrew (Lauren) Gale, Fielding (Taylor) Montgomery and Spencer Montgomery; her great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
   Mairlys was preceded in death by her parents Minnie Christian, Fike Schoneboom and stepfather Richard Christian; brothers Virgil, Orville and Henry (Bud) Meyer; sister Darlene Mohr; and great-granddaughter Evelyn Gale.
