Jody Hutchinson, age 60 of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Sac City, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

   Jody Eugene Hutchinson was born on October 9, 1965, in Sac City, IA, to parents Edward and Janet (Jarvis) Hutchinson. He grew up in Sac City, where he attended Sac City Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1984. Jody was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City.

   Following high school, Jody worked for several years at IBP in Storm Lake, IA. He later moved to Waterloo, IA, before eventually returning to Sac City, where he worked at the local feed mill. In 1996, Jody furthered his education at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, earning a certificate in Diesel Mechanics.

   Jody eventually found his way into the trucking industry. After driving truck for a few years, he purchased his own and became an owner-operator, spending many years on the road. Jody moved to the Des Moines area in 2018. Later, he began working for Hallett Materials as an equipment operator, a position he continued to hold at the time of his passing. Jody was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and was never afraid of putting in a long day’s work.

   Jody was blessed with three sons, Tony, Jeremy, and Andrew, who were an incredibly important part of his life. When the boys were young, Jody was always involved in their activities. He spent many seasons coaching baseball, teaching them the game and helping them learn to pitch. He also passed along his love of the outdoors, teaching his sons how to hunt and sharing many hunting trips and adventures with them over the years.

   Hunting, fishing, and racing were among Jody’s favorite pastimes. For many years, he could be found at the racetrack, where he raced both figure-eight cars and hobby stocks. His love of racing extended beyond being behind the wheel. Jody was a devoted NASCAR fan and especially enjoyed cheering on Kevin Harvick.

   When it came to football, there was no question where Jody’s loyalty stood—he was a huge Green Bay Packers fan. Over the years, he enjoyed traveling and making memories along the way. Some of his favorite trips included traveling to Daytona for the races, as well as a memorable trip with his sons to Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI.

   More than racing, hunting, football, or anything else that filled his days, Jody loved his family. The time spent with those he loved was what mattered most to him. His life was cut far too short as his health declined. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories—the hunting trips, days at the ballfield, nights at the racetrack, miles traveled, football games watched, and countless ordinary moments that now mean so much. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

   He is survived by his sons, Tony (Jennifer) Hutchinson of Newell, IA, Jeremy (Lisa) Hutchinson of Lake City, IA, and Andy Hutchinson (Chelsea) of Carroll, IA; grandchildren: Jaycob, Tori, Alyssa, Miya, Anthony, Addison, Dawson, Raylynn, Miles, Brooklyn, and Jessica; sisters Susan (Victor) Lockwood of Des Moines, IA, and Jennifer (Brent) Johnson of Parkersburg, IA; many nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends.

   Jody was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Janet Hutchinson; uncle Gary Bauer; maternal grandparents Dorothy and Lawrence “Stomper” Jarvis; paternal grandparents Lawrence and Ada Bauer.
